On the Precipice - 100x150cm oil on canvas
“On the Precipice” captures a dramatic and evocative moment, featuring a young woman in an olive green dress perched literally on the precipice of a windowsill. The scene is filled with tension and ambiguity, as it’s unclear whether she is entering or exiting. Her pose is dynamic, she’s gripping the blind cord, with one knee prominently raised while a pair of well worn Dr.Marten boots are strikingly foregrounded, their fatigued tattiness offering a stark contrast to the soft fabric of her dress.
The window reveals a transition between spaces: the interior dimly lit with muted tones, whilst the reflective light on the window hints at an expansive, vibrant world outside. The woman’s expression is partially obscured, adding an air of mystery to her intent. Strands of red hair are slightly tousled, suggesting a breeze or movement.
The painting evokes a sense of freedom, rebellion, and introspection, with the viewer left to ponder her next step.
